health + science writer.
beading artisT.
ukrainian based in Chicago.
Through more than nine years of publications, Yuliya has worked on health guides, reported tech and science stories, blogs, videos, and podcasts. She’s now added physical media to her portfolio, as a beading artist making jewelry, keychains, flowers, and more (and taking commissions!).
Yuliya started her writing career as a blogger at MIT, representing the Institute for alums and prospective students. After a few years in social media marketing, she pursued her master’s degree in Health, Science, and Environment Journalism at Northwestern University Medill School.
While at Medill, Yuliya published tech and science reporting in Discover, Inside Unmanned Systems, and Chicago Health. Post-graduation, she wrote for Health magazine, publishing guides and answering questions on neurological diseases, COVID-19, sexual health, and more. Then, as the senior communications manager at the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, Yuliya produced the Giants of Gene Therapy podcast—featuring two Nobel Prize laureates.
Yuliya has continued writing about health but now combines it with practicing beading. Her goal is to highlight and honor diverse perspectives in her work, and she draws inspiration from her own queer and Ukrainian identities.
